A traditional Austrian sweet dish

"Grießschmarrn" is a typical Austrian sweet dish made from semolina, milk and other ingredients that can be found in every pantry. Add a little STROH and apple sauce to it and this treat becomes a delicious meal that brings happiness.

Ingredients for 4 servings

For the semolina schmarrn

  • 250 g semolina
  • 500 ml milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 60 g butter
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 50 g raisins
  • 50 ml STROH 80
  • icing sugar

 

For the apple sauce

  • 500 g apples
  • 50 ml STROH 80
  • 1 vanilla bean
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 cloves
  • zest of 1 organic lemon

 

Preparation

For the semolina schmarrn

  • Put milk, salt and vanilla in a pot and bring to a boil.
  • Remove from the heat and whisk in the semolina. Allow to cool.
  • Soak raisins in STROH.
  • Melt butter in a pan. Add semolina mass, rip into pieces and sear until lightly browned.
  • Add raisins and STROH.
  • Dust with sugar before serving.

 

For the apple sauce

  • Peel the apples, cut into small pieces and remove the seeds.
  • Put all the ingredients into a pot and bring to a boil.
  • Simmer on medium heat for 15 to 20 min until the apples are soft.
  • Remove all the spices and blend into a sauce.
