An Italian favourite that conquered the world

Bolognese sauce is a beloved Italian classic that has gained popularity worldwide. While traditionally served with tagliatelle, it has become more common to pair it with spaghetti outside of Italy. The aroma of simmering Bolognese sauce fills the air, beckoning the entire family to gather around the table and savor this delightful comfort food.

Ingredients for 8 servings

  • 2 carrots
  • 2 onions
  • 150 g celeriac
  • 1/4 bunch fresh parsley
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 50 ml olive oil for roasting
  • 100 g bacon
  • 500 g minced meat
  • 1/8 l STROH 80
  • 1 l tomato sauce
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tsp salt
  • black pepper

 

Preperation

  • Finely chop bacon, celeriac, carrots, onion, parsley and garlic.
  • In a braising pan, fry the bacon in oil until it is fragrant.
  • Add the celeriac, carrots, onion, parsley and garlic and sauté everything. Season with salt. Push to one side of the pot.
  • Add the meat and fry until it is not red anymore. Season with salt, deglaze with STROH.
  • Add tomatoes and bay leaves, bring to a boil.
  • Cover with a lid and simmer on small heat for at least 2 hours.
  • Remove bay leaves, season with salt, pepper and sugar.
  • Serve with cooked spaghetti or tagliatelle.
